| Criminal Defense in Denver My Philosophy: My job is to address each
case in a manner consistent with the best interests of the client. Sometimes that means an
exhaustive observance of the criminal process and rigorously putting the prosecution to
its burden of proof before a jury. Other times it means a relatively early acceptance of a
proffered deal. It always means the efficient allocation of client resources so that
necessary investigation, research and assessment are brought to bear in this, the most
magnificent and terrifying of matches: you versus the state. In a free society justice
cannot but be a game. A game with time honored rules that strive for fairness and truth,
but a game nonetheless. I play this game with joy, rigor and an unrelenting eye to your
best interest.
Criminal Law in Denver, Colorado
Me: I practice in Denver, Colorado and the surrounding
metro counties: Jefferson, Arapahoe, Douglas and Adams-- 50% criminal defense; 50%
divorce. I have a BA, History, from Stanford, 1972 and a JD cum laude, University
of Santa Clara, 1976. I have authored articles on criminal and divorce law. Also, aside
from the law, I have written on education reform (a lot) and literary criticism (very
occasionally).
Money: What I bid a case (AKA "ask for as a
retainer") depends on a number of factors: the gravity of the charges; the level of
investigation necessary; other probable expenses--lab costs; expert witness-- and, of
course, the resources of the client (or the client's family). A note about the last. It is
all too easy to cynically dismiss it as "what the market will bear". However you
can look at it another way: I will adjust what I ask to accommodate clients of limited
means who are earnest about meeting what may be the challenge of their life. If you're
serious, I'm serious about defending you.
